I have seen surveyors turn up with just a set of ladders, a Disto and an iPad. That doesn't cut the mustard in my opinion.

As far as it is reasonably safe and practicable, I try to have a good look everywhere, make some notes, and take lots of photos. Below, and in no particular order are some of the tools I use to help me. This is an ever evolving collection as new problems sometimes require new kit.
