Last Monday saw the annual pilgrimage to Cromford Mill/Scarthin Books.
For once, I showed great restraint and only purchased three books (The Home Expert was purchased the day before in the second-hand bookshop at Kedleston Hall, 50p, bargain!).
Caring for Old Houses – Pamela Cunnington – this details some good case studies, but won’t be read cover to cover.
The stars of the show are the other two, both published in the US by Dover Publications in Mineola, New York:
Late Victorian Interiors – William B. Tuthill – this book is an unabridged reproduction of ‘Interiors and Interior Details: Fifty-Two Large Quatro Plates’ originally published by William T. Comstock in New York in 1882.
Victorian House Designs – ‘75 plates from the Scientific American-Architects and Builders Edition 1885-1894’, published 1996. This book is wonderful and contains nearly 100 pages of colour illustrations and plans originally on lithographic plates. House styles include Colonial, Greek Revival, Italianate and Gothic Revival.
As I always justify to myself, got to get them whilst they are there as I may never see them again. Just need to find a second bookcase now as there's no more room at the in on the existing one…
I’ve also never noticed the lovely Lego model before! Not sure if this is a new addition, or, if I have been concentrating too much on books to see it on previous visits?
