I have been fortunate enough to survey many interesting houses over the last year or so. I have taken many photographs, analysed many building defects and had far too many ‘what on earth’ type moments. Whilst we are still coming out of Winter and I have some more time on my hands, I thought I would bore you lovely folk with some of the highs and lows of building surveyor life.
Off up to Roundhay first with this superb Grade II family home by Francis W. Bedford. Particular highlights here are the sundial on the gable end with the ‘True as the Sun’ carving, the lead rainwater hoppers, the carved stone details and the stained glass.
There had been substantial internal alterations to the property, some of the works had been documented, some had not. Throughout this instruction, I was liaising with the local authority planning team to establish their position on these undocumented alterations before presenting advice to the client.
