How - PPE

Surveying can be a dangerous job and sometimes some basic PPE is needed. Hazadous parts of the job sometimes include:

  • Climbing and working from scaffold and MEWPS

  • Climbing out of windows onto flat roofs

  • Inspecting roofspaces, some of which haven't been accessed for tens of years

  • Inspecting cellars and crawlspace, again, these may not have been accessed for many years

  • Lifting inspection chamber covers and inspecting drainage, septic tanks and pits

  • Outbuildings

  • Dealing with animals, be that the owners dog or having a bat or swarm of wasps fly at you

  • Poor weather conditions

  • Contractors and plant on building sites

I try to look for safe ways of approaching these hazards as opposed to putting excuses and exclusions in reports. This is not always possible, but I think I try a lot harder than most.
